Originally made from the tooth of a whale, Hawaiian palaoa are fishhook shaped carvings previously worn by both sexes of the chiefly, or aristocratic class. The curved, paddle like shape is reminiscent of a tongue so some believe it showed the importance of speech in cultural duties. Others say the cupped shape is a vessel that holds mana, or one's spiritual power.

This modern take on the palaoa is crafted of solid sterling silver in contrasting textures and is shown hanging from a sturdy 3.6mm 20" sterling silver rounded box chain.

Pendant is available with or without chain, please select your option from the choices above.

Completely handmade on Maui, Hawaii.

Pendant measures approximately 1 1/4" L x 1/2"W x 7/8"D.

What truly sets this piece apart, though, is its cultural significance. As a symbol of my Hawaiian heritage, it's a meaningful connection to my roots.
