Originally made from the tooth of a whale, Hawaiian palaoa are fishhook shaped carvings previously worn by both sexes of the chiefly, or aristocratic class. The curved, paddle like shape is reminiscent of a tongue so some believe it showed the importance of speech in cultural duties. Others say the cupped shape is a vessel that holds mana, or one's spiritual power.
This modern take on the palaoa is crafted of solid sterling silver in contrasting textures and is shown hanging from a sturdy 3.6mm 20" sterling silver rounded box chain.
Pendant is available with or without chain, please select your option from the choices above.
