Flying Kiwikiu - Maui Parrotbill Pendant

The Kiwikiu, or Maui Parrotbill is an endemic species of honeycreeper only found on the island of Maui. Small, round, olive green and yellow, this adorable bird is a treasure to the island. This pendant captures it in flight, feeling the freedom of sailing through the sky.

Critically endangered, their future survival became the subject of much discussion as various conservation programs were developed in recent years. 

Some birds have been moved to Mainland habitats in order to protect them from mosquito-borne diseases, but fears were raised that the birds could lose their cultural identity, experience changes to their songs, and eventually have difficulty reintegrating when brought back to their Maui home.

This pendant is a reminder of the fragility of nature, the complexities of modern life, and our duty to protect what we still can.

Pendant measures approx. 7/8" long x 3/4" wide. Comes with an 18" chain. Pendant and chain are both sterling silver.
